Carolina Lazzari (Mezzo-Soprano) (Milford, Connecticut, USA 1891 - Stony Creek, Connecticut, USA 1946)



She was born in an Italian-French family. She received her education in Bucksport (Maine) andMilan. In 1917 she was engaged by the conductor Cleofonte Campanini to appear at the Chicago Opera (beginning role: Giglietta in the American première of P. Mascagni’s ‘’Isabeau’’), where shesang with great success as Dalila in C. Saint-Saëns’s ‘’Samson et Dalila’’, Pierotto in ‘’Linda di Chamounix’’ of G. Donizetti and as Cieca in A. Ponchielli’s ‘’La Gioconda’’. In 1918, as a member of the Chicago Opera, she made guest appearance at the Lexington Theatre of New York, as a partner of Amelita Galli-Curci in G. Meyerbeer ‘’Dinorah’’. In 1920 she was engaged by the Metropolitan Opera in New York. She appeared there, however, only in one performance, as Amneris in G. Verdi’s ‘’Aida’’. In 1921 she sang  at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires the part of Amneris in ‘’Aida’’, then been active, however, only as a concert singer and in the educational area. She maintained temporarily a private studio in the building of the Metropolitan Opera in New York.
