Anna Oscàr-Hellström (Soprano) (Stockholm, Sweden 1875 - Stockholm, Sweden 1915)



Her real name was Anna Maria Thulin. At the age of 16 she made her debut at the Royal Court Opera in Stockholm and remained a member of this opera house up to her death. Since 1907 she was married to the famous baritone Martin Oscar (1879-1921), who also performed at the Stockholm Opera. She counted as the leading Swedish soprano of her generation. In 1899 she sang in Stockholm the part of Ava in the premiere of the opera "Valdemarsskatten"  of Andreas Hallén. In 1903 she appeared there in the premiere of the opera  "Ran" of Wilhelm Peterson-Berger. She created a numerous parts for the Swedish metropolis: the Mimi in ‘’La Bohème’’ (1901), the Tosca (1904), the Charlotte in ‘’Werther’’ (1904), the Salome (1908), the Maddalena in ‘’Andrea Chénier’’ (1909) and the Lisa in "The Queen of Spades" (1909). In 1903, 1906 and 1909 she undertook a very successful concert tours through the USA. In 1903 she was distinguished with the order ‘’Litteris et artibus’’. Since 1908 she was a member of the Swedish Music Academy.
