Maria Janowska (Soprano) (20 III 1890 Inowrocław - 31 XII 1977 Poznań)



She studied singing in Poznań, then under Jean de Reszke in Paris. In 1913 she made her debut in Poznań and was engaged by the Great Theatre till 1920. Her repertoire inclued Salome, Elektra, Mimi in ‘’La Bohème’’, Tosca, Amelia in ‘’Ballo in maschera’’, Leonora in ‘’Trovatore’’, Venus in ‘’Tannhäuser’’, Martha in "Tiefland", Nedda in ‘’Pagliacci’’, Donna Elvira in ‘’Don Giovanni’’ and Fiordiligi in "Così fan tutte". Till 1963 she was a professor of the conservatoire in Poznań. She was married with Polish actor Kajetan Kopczyn and appeared in Poland also under the name Maria Janowska-Kopczyn.
