Paul-Henri Vergnes (Tenor) (Lagrasse 1905 – Paris 1974)



He was discovered by the patron Castellan de Beauxhoste and studied singing from 1924 to 1928 at the the Paris Conservatoire. In 1929 he made his debut at the Paris Grand Opéra in ‘’Faust’’. Here he unfolded a significant career. In 1929 he sang in a whole performance of the opera ‘’Les Troyens’’ of H. Berlioz in the part of the Jopas. Since 1933 he also belonged to the ensemble of the Opéra-Comique in Paris, where as a beginning role he appeared as  Hoffmann in ‘’Hoffmanns Erzählungen’’. In this role he also had in Amsterdamunder Pierre Monteux a huge success (1932). At the Opéra-Comique he performed in 1938 in the premiere of the opera ‘’Esther de Carpentras’’ of D. Milhaud. Later he worked as a vocal pedagogue in Paris. He was married the singer Lise Dalignan.
