Carlo Del Corso (Baritone) (San Giuliano Terme 1888 - San Giuliano Terme ? 1977)



He made his debut as baritone at the Teatro Verdi of Bologna in the role of  Riccardo in Bellini's ''I Puritani'' (1914). In 1920 he was to be heard at the Teatro Dal Verme in Milan as Marcello in Puccini's ''La Bohème'' and as Amonasro in ''Aida''. In 1922 he performed at the Teatro San Carlo in Napoli in the premiere of the opera ''La Flaminga'' of Donaudy. In 1924 he sang at the Teatro Petruzzelli of Bari in the operas ''Il Piccolo Marat'' of Mascagni and ''Dejanice'' of Catalani. In 1925 he guested in Berlin, Budapest and Prague appearing as Rigoletto. In 1927 at the Teatro Nuovo in Copenaghen he sang the role of Figaro in  ''Barbiere di Siviglia''. In 1929 he made guest appearances in Valencia, Bilbao, Zaragoza and Barcelona. In 1930 he sang  at the Teatro Liceo in Barcelona. Then he changed to tenor and for the first time appeared in 1933 at the Teatro Puccini in Milan as Dick Johnson in ''La Fanciulla del West'' of Puccini, then he sang at the Metropolitan Opera the role of Radames in Verdi's ''Aida''. In the same season he sang there Canio in ''Pagliacci'' and Turiddu in ''Cavalleria Rusticana'' with Rose Ponselle as a Santuzza. In 1935 at the Teatro Verdi in Trieste he sang the roile of Ägisth in ''Elektra''. Especially he was famous for his interpretation of  Otello in Verdi's opera of the same name, which he sang among other things in Naples, Palermo and Catania. In 1942 he sang  for the last time at the Teatro Politeama of Viareggio the role of Canio in ''Pagliacci'' and then went to his birthplace San Giuliano Terme. He made only one record.
