Alfons Fügel (Tenor) (Bonlanden ad Fildern, Germania August 10, 1912 - Esslingen, Germania October 8, 1960)



At first he became a tiler. After one had discovered his beautiful voice, he auditioned to the director of the Munich State Opera Clemens Krauss and then began a short study. He made his debut in 1937 at the Municipal Theater of Ulm; from there he joined in 1938 to the Opera House of Graz. In 1940 he was engaged by the State Opera in Munich. Here he had a huge success. During the years of war he guested in Holland as Don Ottavio in ‘’ Don Giovanni’’. Till 1945 he remained at the Munich Opera. After the Second World War he still made guest appearances at the Stuttgart State Opera and at the Municipal Theater of Ulm. Now he appeared primarily as a concert singer. He died suddenly during a concert in Esslingen.
