Alexis Ghasne (Baritone) (Saint-Denis 1868 - ?)




His real name was Alexis Bobeuf. His education occurred at the Paris Conservatoire. In 1892 he made his debut at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brusselsto which he belonged till 1895. Here in 1892 he appeared in the premiere of the opera ‘’Maître Martin’’ of Jean Blockx. He performed afterwards in some opera houses of the French province (among other things at the Opera House of Nice) and then was engaged in 1897 by the Paris Opéra-Comique, to which he, apart from a short interruption in the 1911-12 season, when he was engaged again by the Théâtre de la Monnaie, belonged until 1919. Here he took over among other things in 1906 in the premiere of the opera ‘Aphrodite’’ of Camille Erlanger appearing in the part of Timon. In 1893 and 1911 he made guest appearances at Covent Garden in Londonas Valentin in ‘’Faust’’ of Gounod. Probably he retired from the stage in 1919.
