Giuseppe Quinzi Tapergi (Bass) (Rome 1881 – Milan 1931)




He made his debut in 1905 at the Teatro Alighieri in  Ravenna in ‘’Adriana Lecouvreur’’. At the beginning of his career he sang in 1908 at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo. In 1909 he appeared at the Teatro Dal Verme in Milan in Verdi’s ‘’Aida’’. In 1911 he was very successful at the Teatro Regio in Parma where he sang as Pimen in the première of ‘’Boris Godunov’’ with Eugenio Giraldoni in the title part; he appeared there also as Mefistofele in the opera of the same name of Boito and as Sparafucile in ‘’Rigoletto’’ (with Amelita Galli-Curci in the role of the Gilda). In 1911 he sang at La Scala; here he appeared as Geronimo in Cimarosa’s opera ‘’Matrimonio segreto’’ and in the premiere of the opera ‘’Fior di Neve’’ of Filiasi. In the 1923 season he helped at La Scala in performances of Puccini’s ‘’Gianni Schicchi’’. In 1911 he was to be heard at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires. Here he sang among other things as Geronimo in Cimarosa’s opera ‘’Matrimonio segreto’’ and there helped in the première of Puccini’s ‘’La Fanciulla del West’’. In 1914 he was again at the Teatro Colón where he appeared with success now as Leporello in ‘’Don Giovanni’’, in  ‘’Don of Pasquale’’ (with Lucrezia Bori, Alessandro Bonci and Giuseppe De Luca), as Sparafucile in ‘’Rigoletto’’, as Colline in ‘’La Bohème’’, as Grieux in Massenet’s  ‘’Manon’’ and as Brander in ‘’Damnation de Faust’’ of  Berlioz. In 1921 he was to be heard at the Teatro Regio in Turin where he appeared in the premiere of the opera ‘’Ettore Ferramosca’’ of Cantù. In 1922 he sang at the Théâtre des Champs Elysées in Paris under Tullio Serafin. Probably last time he appeared on the stage in 1930.
