Hans Melms (Baritone) (Berlin 1869 – 1941 ?)




He made his debut in 1892 at the Hoftheater in Altenburg, Thuringia. In the 1893-1894 season he appeared at the Stadttheater in Wurzburg, then from 1894 to 1895 season at the Stadttheater in Olmütz. In the 1895-1897 seasons he sang at the Stadttheater in Chemnitz, from 1897 to 1898 at the Opernhaus in Cologne. In the 1898-1902 seasons he performed at the Stadttheater in Magdeburg, in the 1902-1904 seasons he appeared at the Hofoper in Vienna (beginning role: Tonio in ''Pagliacci''). In the 1904-1905 season he sang at the Nationaltheater in Berlin, then from 1905 to 1907 at the Volksoper in Vienna. From 1907 to 1909 seasons he appeared once more at the Hofoper in Vienna, then in the 1909-1910 sang at the Volksoper  in Vienna. From 1910 to 1914 he again performed at the Hofoper in Vienna. Since 1917 he lived in Berlin. later he appeared in films. During his career he appeared as a guest at the Opernhaus in Leipzig (1900), at the Hofoper in Munich (1901) and at the Deutschen Theater in Brünn (1903). His repertoire included Pizarro in ''Fidelio'', Hans Heiling in the opera of the same name by H. Marschner, hunter in "Nachtlager von Granada" by C. Kreutzer, Telramund in ''Lohengrin'', Wotan in "Walküre", Kurwenal in ''Tristan und Isolde'', Rigoletto, Count di Luna in ''Trovatore'', Nelusco in ''Africaina'',  Valentin in ''Faust'' and Wolfram in ''Tannhäuser''.
