She been descended from a German family and her real name was Alma Weisshaar. She made her debut in 1915 at the Boston Opera. In 1922 she appeared at the San Francisco Opera and in the 1920s and 1930s she was a star of the San Carlo Opera Company, who undertook yearly tours through the USA. She sang also in Chicago and Philadelphia. She was married to Dimitri Onofrei, a famous tenor.
