Karl Ostertag (Tenor) (1. 10. 1903 Ulm, † 15. 12. 1979 München)




After his education under the pedagogue Anna Henneberg in Munich first he appeared in the 1928-1930 seasons at the Landestheater in Neustrelitz. Primarily he sang parts in operas of Verdi, Puccini, Wagner and Strauss and by the end of his career also added to his repertoire Comprimario roles. He appeared in Munich in the premieres of the operas "Der Friedenstag" by Richard Strauss (14. 7. 1938) and "Der Mond" of Carl Orff (5. 2. 1929). Guest performances led him to the Staatsopern in Wien (1939, 1942) and Stuttgart, Salzburg festival (1943, 1944). In 1938 he made guest appearance with the Munich ensemble at  the Teatro Alla Scala in Milan. in 1956 he performed at Covent Garden in London. In addition he had a significant career as a concert singer.
