Manfredi Polverosi (Tenor) (Capraia/Firenze 1882/85 - Roma 1965)





He studied with Pieraccini and Jacopo Manfrini and made his debut in 1906 at the Arena Borsellini of Empoli in ‘’Lucia di Lammermoor’’. After successful appearances in few Italian opera houses, In 1908 he was engaged at La Scala, making his debut as Enzo in ‘’Gioconda’’. In the same year he appeared at the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires in ‘’Rigoletto’’, ‘’Gioconda’’, ‘’Il Barbere di Siviglia’’ and ‘’Cristoforo Colombo’’. In 1910 he performed at the Teatro San Carlo in Napoli, in 1912 was engaged at the operas of Montevideo and Rio de Janeiro, in 1913 he sang at the Teatro Liceo in Barcelona. In 1915 he made guest appearance in Havana. On 15. 1. 1915 Polverosi appeared at La Scala in Milan in the premiere of the opera ‘’La Notte di leggenda’’ of Alberto Franchetti. In 1924 he took part at the Teatro Dal Verme in Milan in the premiere of the opera ‘’Giocondo e il suo Re’’ of Carlo Jachino. He sang in numerous guest performaces in St. Petersburg, Odessa, Cairo etc. From 1936 to 1943 he was a manager of the Centro Sperimentale di Canto e di Danza of the Teatro dell'Opera in Rome. Rina Gigli, Orietta Moscucci and Guido Mancini belong to his pupils. When he stopped singing, he became a vocal pedagogue. Polverosi died in poverty.
