Gennaro De Tura (Tenor) (Naples 1875 - Milan 1939)

He made his debut in 1903 at the Teatro Verdi in Brindisi as Alfredo in ‘’Traviata’’. In 1905 De Tura performed at the Teatro Comunale of Reggio di Calabria in ‘’Fedora’’ of Giordano. In 1906 he guested at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa in the première of the opera ‘’La Figlia di Jorio’’ of Franchetti. He took part in South America tour under the composer Pietro Mascagni. In 1910 he sang at the Teatro Coliseo in Buenos Aires as Pollione in ‘’Norma’’ and as Canio in ‘’Pagliacci’’, during of the same year he also appeared in Rio de Janeiro and Santiago de Chile, in 1914 he made guest appearance in the opera of Havana (Teatro Paynet) as Radames in ‘’Aida’’, as Manrico in ‘’Il Trovatore’’, as Riccardo in Verdi’s ‘’Un Ballo in maschera’’ and again as Canio in ‘’Pagliacci’’. In 1912 he appeared in London (Kingsway Theatre) again as Manrico in ‘’Il Trovatore’’, in 1913 and 1916 he guested at La Scala in Milan as Radames in ‘’Aida’’. In 1919 he sang at  the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa where he helped in the premiere of the opera ‘’Alba Eroica’’ of Monleone. During of his career De Tura performed also in Monte Carlo (1909), Lisbon (1909), Turin (1907), Palermo (1908), Parma (1911), Genoa (1912), Rome (1918), Barcelona. Later he was active as a teacher. His son Manrico de Tura (1903-86) was active as a conductor in Italy like in South America. The second son, Fausto de Tura (1907-77), worked as a director and theatrical figure.
