Luigi Fort (Tenor) (Turin 1907 - Milan 1976)



                                                                    Nadir

He studied with Luigi Cocchi in Turin and made his debut as a concert singer in 1926 at the church Santa Teresa in Turin in ‘’Il Natale di Redentore’’ of  Lorenzo Perosi.  His stage debut took place in 1927 at the Teatro Regio in Turin as Arturo in ‘’Lucia di Lammermoor’’. In 1930 he gave some very successful concerts in Holland. Here In 1931 as a first light tenor of the Italian Opera Company he performed with great success as Nadir in G. Bizet’s ‘’I Pescatori di perle‘’. From 1930 to 1937 he appeared in Holland where he attained an unbelievable popularity. In 1935 he appeared at the Maggio Musicale of Florence in the premiere  of I. Pizzetti’s ‘’ L'Orseolo’’. In 1936 Fort made his debut at La Scala in Milan where on 12. 2. 1936 he sang in the premiere of the opera ‘’Il Campiello’’ of Wolf-Ferrari. In 1937 he made guest appearance at Covent Garden in London, in 1938 in Antwerp and in 1939 at the festival of Glyndebourne. In 1939 he sang at the Salzburg festival as Almaviva in ‘’Il Barbiere di Siviglia’’. During the Scond World War he fought with the Italian Liberation Army. At the end of the war, he returned to the stages. He retired at the beginning of the 1950s
