José García Romero (Tenor) (Valencia, Spain 14. 8. 1888 - Madrid, Spain 26. 2. 1961)





He studied singing  at the Conservatory of Valencia with the teacher and famous singer Lamberto Alonso and made his debut at the Teatro Apolo in Valencia. Then he appeared in Bilbao in “Bohemios”, travelled around Spain and sang in “Molinos de Viento”, “El Conde de Luxemburgo”. In 1912 at the Teatro Lirico and at the Gran Teatro of Madrid he appeared as Turiddu in P. Mascagni’s ‘’Cavalleria Rusticana’’ and sang in E.  Arrieta’s “Marina”. The same year he performed at the Gran Teatro in “La Generala” of A. Vives. The next year he appeared at the Teatro de la Zarzuela of Madrid as Turiddu in ‘’Cavalleria Rusticana’’, “Molinos de Viento” and “El Rey que Rabió”. In 1914 he made guest appearances in South America, singing at theaters of Uruguay and Argentina. In 1915 during the Holy Week of Seville, he was chosen to sing the ‘’Miserere’’ of Hilarión Eslava at the Cathedral of Seville. At the Teatro Reale in Madrid he appeared with great success in “Margarita la Tornera” (Chapí), “La Dolores” (Bretón), “Marina” (Arrieta) and “Maruxa” (Vives). The following years he performed a  lot in Madrid, Barcelona and province. His wife was the famous singer and actress Carmen González. In 1922 he sang at the Teatro Principal in Valencia. Probably he retired around 1925.
