Paul Daraux (Baritone) (Toulouse, France 28. 12. 1864 - Paris, France 1907)




First he studied architecture at the École des Beaux-Arts in Toulouse, then studied singing at the Conservatoire of his hometown. In 1885 he came to Paris and now at the Conservatoire National  became a pupil of Archaimbaud and Achard. In 1888 he began a career as a concert singer and first  appeared in the French metropolis with the Concerts Lamoureux, then with the Concerts Colonne, here among other things in ‘’Szenen aus Goethes Faust’’ by R. Schumann, ‘’Alceste’’ of Gluck and in ‘’Rebecca’’ of César Franck. With the Concerts you Conservatoire he appeared in h-moll-Messe of J. S. Bach, ‘’Requiem’’ by  Gabriel Fauré, ‘’Aude et Roland’’ of Honnoré  and in ‘’Job’’ of H. Rabaud. He had a long and successful career at the concert halls in France, Germany, Belgium and Switzerland. In Brussels, like in other centers of the international music life, he gave song evenings. The artist did not have a real stage career, although sang at the Salle Pleyel in Paris the part of Wotan in ‘’Siegfried’’. In 1900 he appeared at the Opéra Monte-Carlo in the premiere of ‘’Renaud d'Arles’’ in the part of the king of Arles. In 1902 during the Festival Lyrique in Paris the Marke in the ‘’Tristan und Isolde’’ (together with Félia Litvinne and Charles Dalmorès under Alfred Cortot). Later he taught at the Paris Conservatoire and was appointed the officer of the Académie Française.
