Vincenzo Guicciardi (Baritone) (Nonantola 1889 - Ferrara 1965)



He studied singing in Modena where he and made his debut in 1911 in G. Verdi’s ‘’Ernani’’. In 1913 he again appeared as Don Carlo in ‘’Ernani’’ at the Teatro Politeama in Genoa and began a successful career in the leading Italian opera houses. His repertoire included Telramund in ‘’Lohengrin’’, Kurwenal in ‘’Tristan und Isolde’’, Jochanaan in ‘’Salome’’, the eponymous heroes in ‘’Guglielmo Tell’’, Gérard in ‘’Andrea Chénier’’ and Barnaba in ‘’La Gioconda’’. In 1931 he sang at La Scala in the premiere of the opera ‘’La notte di Zoraima’’ by Montemezzi. In 1926 he appeared at the Teatro Donizetti in Bergamo in the premiere of the opera ‘’Ivania’’ of Pizzi. In 1942 he performed at the Opera of Rome in the Italian première of Alban Berg’s ‘’Wozzeck’’. He continued his career after the Second World War and sang still 1951 at the Teatro Grande in Brescia in G. Puccini’s  ‘’La Fanciulla del West’’. In 1951 he was appointed as a professor of the Liceo Frescobaldi in Ferrara.
