Mario Šimenc (Tenor) (Gorica 1896 – Zagreb 1958)





His career began in 1919 at Maribor. He made his opera debut in 1922. He appeared in Ljubljana(1922-1924), Belgrade, Osijek, Skopje and Zagreb (1924-1941). His repertoire included roles in operas of R. Wagner, G. Verdi, G. Puccini, R. Leoncavallo, D. Shostakovich and M. Mussorgsky. Probably he was the biggest Croatian dramatic tenor. He created for Croatia the role of Calaf in the premiere of G. Puccini’s ‘’Turandot’’ (1928).
