Yiannis Angelopoulos (Baritone) (Exarchia, Athens in 1881 – Piraeus, Greece 1943)

                                                                Rigoletto

Since 1903 he studied singing at the New Odeon Conservatory in Athens. He made his debut at the Greek island of Syros in 1906 as Ourrias in Gounod’s ‘’Mireille’’. was a very popular singer who possessed one of the greatest voices that have ever been heard on greek lyric stages. In 1913 he performed with great success in ‘’Rigoletto’’ and ‘’Ernani’’ in Bucharest. Between 1920 and 1923 he sung in Italy (Pisa, Brescia, Treviso, Palermo, Florence and Rome). Till 1920 he was a meber of the “Greek Melodrama” company in Greece. His chance for a great international career was lost when he decided to return to Greece due to the unstable political climate in Italy and his objection to Mussolini's attacks on the island of Corfu.
