Jan Verbeeck (Tenor) (Merksem, Belgium April 24, 1913 - Anvers, Belgium June 6, 2005)

He was trained by Mme de Prêter in Antwerp and made his debut in 1947 at the Opera House of Antwerp. Here he appeared till 1955. In 1955 he was engaged by the Opera of Ghent. In Ghent he sang in 1960 the title role in the Belgian première of the opera ‘’Bánk Bán’’ by  F. Erkel. He appeared as a guest in French and West German operatic stages, in particular, also at the Opéra de Wallonie Lüttich. His stage repertoire included Florestan in ‘’Fidelio’’ Lohengrin, Tannhäuser, Siegmund in "Walküre", the title roles in Otello and in Don Carlo, Ismaele inr ‘’Nabucco’’, Manrico in ‘’Trovatore’’, Radames in ‘’Aida’’, Turiddu in ‘’Cavalleria Rusticana’’, Canio in ‘’Pagliacci’’, Osaka in ‘’Iris’’, Jean in ‘’Hérodiade’’, Werther and Samson in ‘’Samson et Dalila’’.
