Edouard Rouard (Baritone) (Nice 1876 – Nice 1962)

He studied in Marseille under Boudouresque and made his debut in 1900 at Nice. After significant success at the opera houses of Lyon, Lüttich (1904-05) and Geneva (1906-07), he sang in the 1910-11 season at the Opera House of Nice, from 1911-14 at the Opera House of Brussels (Théâtre de la Monnaie) where he appeared with great success. In 1914 he created in Brusselsin the première of the ‘’Parsifal’’ the role of Amfortas. He sang this part also in 1914 in the première of the ‘’Parsifal’’ at the Grand Opéra of Paris, where he made his debut in 1912 as Grand Prêtre in ‘’Samson et Dalila’’. He sang at the Grand Opéra till 1936. On 14. 3. 1921 he performed at the Grand Opéra in the premiere of the opera ‘’Antar’’ of Dupont, ‘’La Légende de Saint Christophe’’ of Vincent d'Indy (1920), ‘’Nerto’’ of Charles-Marie Widor (1924), ‘’Sept Chansons’’ Gian Francecso Malipiero (1928), ‘’Virginie’’ of Alfred Bruneau (1931). After his retirement He worked as a vocal pedagogue at Nice.
