Aristide Baracchi (Bass-Baritone) (Reggio Emilia 1885 – Milan 1964)






First he sang in Italian provincial stages, but then he was engaged by the Metropolitan Opera, New York (1907-09) where he took over some small parts. He sang primarily in Italy and specialized in Comprimario parts. Since 1918 he belonged to the ensemble of the La Scala, Milan.

He appeared there in the following premieres:

1924 ''Nerone'' of  A. Boito
1926 ''Turandot'' of  G. Puccini
1928 ''Fra Gherardo'' of  I. Pizzetti
1929 ''Le preziose Ridicole'' of  F. Lattuada
1932 ''Palla De'Mozzi'' of  G. Marinuzzi
1935 ''Nerone'' of  P. Mascagni

He appeared at La Scala also in bigger parts, for example as  an Alberich in ''Siegfried'' or as Schaunard in ''La Boheme''. He was also to be found in South America; here he sang in 1924 at the opera house of  Rio de Janeiro. From 1928 to 1939, almost annually, he guested at Covent Garden London where he sang among other things the role of Ping in Puccini's ''Turandot'' and the role of Silvio in ''Pagliacci''. From 1924 to 1951 he sang in the festival of Verona, among other things in 1924 the role of Klingsor in ''Parsifal''. Later he lived in Milan, than worked as singing teacher. He spent the last years at the "Casa di Riposo G. Verdi" in Milan.
