Jean Marny (Tenor) (Paris 1885 - ? 1949)



                                                                 Werther

He began his career in 1911 and received great success as a member of the Opéra-Comique in Paris. In this opera house his first role was Werther (1917). In 1920 he appeared there in the premiere of the opera ‘’La Rôtisserie de la Reine Pedauque’’ of Charles Lavadé. During the 1920’s he also made guest appearances at the opera houses of Monte Carlo, Marseille and Nice as well as in many French provincial stages. His best parts were De Grieux and Werther. In 1943 he became a manager of the opera house of Marseille. Jean Marny was his artistic name, the real name of the singer was Jean Cèbe.
