Avelina Carrera (Soprano) (Barcelona 1871 – Rubi 1939)




Andria Avelina Carrera. She studied under Joan Goula and made her debut at the Teatro Liceu in Barcelona in ‘’Lohengrin’’ (1889). She had an immediate success, so much so that afterwards she was signed up by the major theatres in her own country and abroad. She created the role of Maddalena in World Premiere of U, Giordano’s ‘’Andrea Chenier’’ (1896). Her other successes were in ‘’Otello’’, Tannhauser’’, Die Walkure’’, ‘’Aida’’, ‘’Faust’’, and more or less all the dramatic repertory of the era. For example in Buenos Aires she appeared in ‘’La Regina de Saba’’ opposite Enrico Caruso. She sang until 1910, and then dedicated herself to teaching singing in the city of her birth.
