Redvers Llewellyn (Baritone) (1901 Britonferry (Galles), † 24. 5. 1975 Eastbourne)

First he received his education in Cardiff, then continued in Milan. Later he perfected his vocal technique under Oscar Daniel in Berlin. He made his debut during the early 1930’s at the Teatro San Carlo in Napoli and was engaged in 1934 by the Sadler's Wells Theatre in London. Long time he remained the first baritone of this Theatre. Especially he was highly appreciated in Italian repertoire; thus he sang in 1938 the part of Posa in the English première of G. Verdi’s ‘’Don Carlo’’ at the Sadler's Wells Opera. During the Second World War he served in the Royal Air force and then again in the 1945-1948 seasons appeared at the the Sadler's Wells Theatre. Later he still made guest appearances, partly with Carl Rose Opera Company. Later he worked as vocal pedagogue at the Welsh University in Aberystwyth. Since 1969 he was a professor of the Royal Academy of Music in London. Known soprano Rita Hunter belonged to his pupils.
