First she received her education in Oslo, then studied
singing in Stockholm with Ida Basilius-Magel, John Forsell and Gillis Bratt. In
1898 she made her debut (under the name Magna Lykseth) as a concert singer. In 1901 she became a member of the Royal Opera in
Stockholm, where she made her debut as Santuzza in ‘’Cavalleria Rusticana’’ and
till 1918 she was a real prima donna of this opera house. In the 1904-1910 she
sang there under the name Magna Lykseth-Schjerven. In 1911 she married Swedish
baron Skogman and sang under the name Magna Lykseth-Skogman. She was an excellent
interpreter of parts in operas of R. Wagner and created in Stockholm for Sweden
the part of Brünnhilde in ‘’Siegfried’’ (1905) and in ‘’Götterdämmerung’’
(1907). In 1909 she
created Isolde in ‘’Tristan und Isolde’’. In 1903 she sang in Stockholm with
great success the title role in G. Puccini’s ‘’Tosca’’. Her repertoire also
included Aida, Desdemona in ‘’Otello’’, Elsa in ‘’Lohengrin’’, Elisabeth in ‘’Tannhäuser’’,
Kundry in ‘’Parsifal’’, Countess in ‘’Figaros Hochzeit’’, Agathe in ‘’Freischütz’’ and Marguerite in ‘’Faust’’.
In 1907 she received the Swedish order ‘’Litteris et artibus’’. In 1912 she
became a member of the Royal College of Music in Stockholm.
