Marie Gutheil-Schoder (Soprano) (Weimar, Weimar 1874, 16/2 - Ilmenau, Germany 1935, 4/10)




First she studied singing in Weimar under Virgina Naumann-Gungl, then with Fedor von Milde, but she rehearsed some opera parts with Richard Strauss. She made her debut in 1891 at the Hoftheater in Weimar as 1-st lady in the ‘’Magic Flute’’. In 1900 she was engaged by Gustav Mahler to appear at the Vienna Hofoper. Up to 1926 she was highly appreciated in Vienna, where for the last time she sang the part of Elektra. She been active at the Vienna Opera as well as at the Salzburg Festival as an opera director ( ‘’Don Giovanni’’. 1926, Iphigenie in Aulis. 1930). First she was married to the conductor Gustav Gutheil (1868-1914), then with the photographer Franz Setzer.
