He was a pupil of Oscar Saenger in New York and first appeared as a concert singer. In 1909 he was engaged by Oscar Hammerstein to appear at the Manhattan Opera House in New York , where he and made his debut as Ramphis in ‘’Aida’’. Since 1932 he lived in Philadelphia.
