Suzanne Brohly (Mezzo-Soprano) (? 1882 - ?)



She studied singing at the Conservatoire de Paris and made her debut in 1906 at the Opéra-Comique. Till 1930 she was a mamber of this opera house and appeared here in the following opera premieres: ‘’Ariane et Barbe-Bleue’’ (1907) by P. Dukas, ‘’The Snow Maiden’’ (1908) of N. Rimsky-Korsakov and M. de Falla’s ‘’La vida breve’’ (1914). The other roles, which she took over at the Opéra-Comique were the Mignon, Charlotte in ‘’Werther’’, mother in ‘’Louise’’, Margared in ‘’Le Roi d'Ys’’, the title role in ‘’Thérèse’’, Geneviève in ‘’Pelléas et Mélisande’’ and Suzuki in ‘’Madama Butterfly’’. On 7. 12. 1912 she took part at the Grand Opéra in the premiere of the opera ‘’La Lépreuse’’ by S. Lazzari. On 20. 3. 1913 she sang in the premiere of  ‘’Le Carillonneur’’ by Xavier Leroux. On 22. 11. 1919 at the Théâtre Lyrique de Vaudeville in Paris she performed in Marcel Samuel-Rousseau’s ‘’Taras Bulba’’. The public especially appreciated her interpretation of the part Carmen. In 1911 with a French opera troop she made guest appearances in South America.
