First he appeared as baritone and was trained by Rutland Boughton, the founder of theGlastonbury School-Festival, which took place at the small village Glastonbury in Somerset ,England . Then he changed to tenor after studying with the pedagogue Hermann Grünebaum and he was famous as an interpreter of the parts in R. Wagner’s operas. In the 1922-1923 season he sang at the Covent Garden parts like Siegfried in ‘’Nibelungenring’’ and Walther von Stolzing in"Meistersingern". He had a significant career especially for his appearances in R. Wagner's operas at the English operatic stages as well as at the concert hall.
