First he studied singing under Hans Feodor von Milde, then with the pedagogue Müller-Hartung. He made his debut at the Stadttheater in Teplitz (Teplice, Böhmen), then appeared at the Landestheater in Linz (Donau) and the Stadttheater in Halle (Saale). In 1895 he was engaged by the Deutsche Landestheater in Prague. On 3. 3. 1901 here he sang in the premiere of the opera "Der polnische Jude" of Karel Weis. On 15. 11. 1903 he appeared in the premiere of the opera "Tiefland" of Eugene d'Albert, while Irene Alföldy and Desider Aranyi were his partners. The same year he took part there in the premiere of Cesare Rossi's opera "Nadeya". In 1905 he sang in the Prague premiere of Eugene d'Albert's opera ''Flauto solo''. Later he was engaged by the Hoftheater in Brunswick. His repertoire included Hans Sachs in "Meistersingern", Wotan in the operas of the Ring-Zyklus, Wolfram in ''Tannhäuser'', Fliegende Holländer, Telramund in ''Lohengrin'', Nelusco in G. Meyerbeer's ''Africaine'' and Count di Luna in ''Il Trovatore'' of G. Verdi.
