He studied singing under Herman Devriès in Chicago and made his debut in 1909 in Chicago Opera in Auber’s ‘’Fra Diavolo’’. After he had appeared temporarily in musical Comedies, he was from 1913-14 and 1916-17 a member of Chicago Opera. From 1920-23 he stayed in Australia . After returning to America , he made his debut in 1924 at the Metropolitan Opera as Roméo in ‘’Roméo et Juliette’’ of Gounod opposite Lucrezia Bori. Till 1926 he remained at the Metropolitan Opera and sang several years at the Philadelphia Opera. Here he sang in 1926 in the première of Stravinsky’s opera ‘’Le Rossignol’’. In 1929 he performed in the American première of the E.Goossen’s opera ‘’Judith’’. After 1930 he was active as pedagogue in Newark and foundedwith which he travelled around North America . Here he sang on occasion together with his daughter, the lyrical soprano Martha Errolle. Later he received a teaching assignment from the Louisiana State University .
