He was the son of sculptor Friedrich Moest. He studied under Franz Krückl in Strasbourg and with Carl Hermann in Frankfurt a. M. He made his debut in 1892 in Strasbourg as Ruggiero in Halévy’s ‘’La Juive’’. Till 1896 he sang in Strasbourg and then from 1896 to 1914 he was a respected member of the Hoftheater in Hannover . In 1914 he was engagaed by the Hofoper in Vienna , were he made guest appearance in 1900. Here he had one of his biggest success as Hans Sachs in"Meistersingern"; he sang there also in 1898 in the premiere of the opera 'Matteo Falcone’’ of Theodor Gerlach. At the Bayreuth festival of 1909 he sang the role of king Heinrich in R. Wagner’s ‘’Lohengrin’’ and the Titurel in ‘’Parsifal’’. He made guest appearances in Berlin (1903-10), Dresden (1906), Munich , Stuttgart , Prague (1907, 1909), Karlsruhe (1902), Weimar , Frankfurt a. M. (1900) and Cologne (1905-08). Still in his day of death he appeared in Vienna as Lothario in ‘’Mignon’’ by A. Thomas. His repertoire included Kaspar in ‘’Freischütz’’, Marke in ‘’Tristan und Isolde’’, Hans Sachs in "Meistersingern", Leporello in ‘’Don Giovanni’’, Jacob in ‘’Joseph’’ of Méhul, Mephisto in ‘’Faust’’ of Gounod, Escamillo in ‘’Carmen’’, Rocco in ‘’Fidelio’’.
