Friedrich Plaschke (Bass/Baritone) ( Jaroměř 1875 - Prague 1952)




He studied in Prague, and in Dresden with Karl Scheidemantel. He made his début at the Dresden Hofoper in 1900 as the Herald in ‘’Lohengrin’’ and remained a member of that company until 1937, creating Pöschel (‘’Feuersnot’’), the First Nazarene (‘’Salome’’), Arcesius (dAlbert's ‘’Die toten Augen’’), Altair (‘’Die ägyptische Helena’’), Count Waldner (‘’Arabella’’) and Morosus (‘’Die schweigsame Frau’’); he was also the first Dresden Barak, Gérard (‘’Andrea Chénier’’), Boris Godunov and Amfortas. He sang Pogner at Bayreuth in 1911 and Kurwenal, Hans Sachs and Amfortas at Covent Garden in 1914. Plaschke toured the USA with the German Opera Company, 1922–4. In Germany he was considered one of the best singing actors of his day. He was married to the soprano Eva von der Osten.
