Aleksandra Makarova (Mezzo-Soprano)

This St Petersburg singer studied at the local conservatory under Professor Prjanishnikov. She appeared, beginning in the early 1890s, with a series of different operatic troupes, first in St Petersburg and later in Moscow, where she sang at the Bolshoi Theatre in 1892-3 and in 1899. For several seasons, she sang in Kharkov before returning to St. Petersburg where, in 1907-8, she sang Amneris in Aida at the Mariinsky Theatre She later reportedly sang in New York (1909), Bakuand Paris (1911).
