Valère Blouse (Baritone) (La Bouverie 1892 - Marseille 1970)

He studied singing at the Conservatoire Royal de Mons under Edouard Martiny. In 1919 his long stage career began in Verviers. He appeared with success at Limoges, Nantes, Nancy, La Rochelle, Algiers, Oran, Ghent, Rouen, Bordeaux and Lyon. In 1934 he was engaged by the Opera House of Marseille in which he performed till 1963. Guest performances led him to many French opera houses, but the Opera House of Marseille to which he belonged longer than thirty years remained a center of his artistic career. He guested among other things at Grand Opéra in Paris (1935, as Telramund in ‘’Lohengrin’’), at the Opera House of Monte Carlo (1944 and 1951, as Kurwenal in ‘’Tristan und Isolde’’), at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels(1953). His repertoire contained 120 parts and his famous roles were Scarpia in Puccini’s ‘’Tosca’’, Escamillo in ‘’Carmen’’, Rigoletto, Athanaël in ‘’Thaïs’’ of Massenet, Jago in Verdi’s ‘’Otello’’, Alfonso in ‘’La Favorite’’ of  Donizetti, Nevers in ‘’Hugenotten’’ of Meyerbeer, Enrico in ‘’Lucia di Lammermoor’’, Wolfram in ‘’Tannhäuser’’, Telramund in ‘’Lohengrin’’, Amfortas in ‘’Parsifal’’. He worked later as song pedagogue at the Marseille Conservatoire.
