  1. Hello, may I ask where your information on Mr. Bru comes from? I have for a long time tried in vain to find his first name in contemporary sources (newspapers etc.). I am asking because I have a problem with the appearances at the Opéra: He is *not* listed among the participants in either the 1892 Samson nor the 1899 Salammbo, according to the cast lists as printed in the Parisian press at the time Edmond Vergnet sang both of these performances. What's worse, on December 3rd 1899, there was no performance at all at the Opéra!! And they did not perform anything titled "Salomé" at that house before Strauss' opera many years later. Massenet's "Hérodiade", sometimes also called "Salomé", was given only at the Opéra-Comique during this period. We do know that Mr. Bru was a real person and not a pseudonym for Edmond Vergnet, as he is occasionally mentioned as a concert singer between 1895 and 1904. But he is not found in any cast list at the Opéra - that is not to say your information is totally wrong, but I just would prefer to check it at the source. Thank you!
